NREC began with the vision to unite innovation, collaboration, and leadership in renewable energy across the Northeastern United States. It all started with Massachusetts Clean Energy Week (MCEW), an event born out of a passion to showcase the state's achievements in sustainability. Over time, MCEW became more than just an event; it evolved into a platform for dialogue and collaboration among policymakers, businesses, innovators, and communities.

MCEW’s success revealed a need for a broader, regional approach to clean energy. Participants, inspired by the event’s impact, expressed a desire to expand its reach. Recognizing this momentum, we launched the Northeastern Renewable Energy Coalition to connect clean energy efforts across Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut, building a clean energy corridor that unites individual state achievements into a collective powerhouse of innovation.

Rhode Island Clean Energy Week (RICEW) and Connecticut Clean Energy Week (CCEW) were the natural next steps. Rhode Island’s groundbreaking achievements in offshore wind energy and Connecticut’s thriving clean energy economy exemplify the diverse strengths each state brings to the coalition. These events not only amplify local successes but also provide a unified platform for stakeholders to collaborate on solutions that benefit the entire region.

At its core, NREC is a story of growth fueled by community, innovation, and shared ambition. Starting with MCEW, it has blossomed into a movement that aligns resources, shares successes, and creates opportunities for everyone—businesses, citizens, and policymakers—to contribute to a sustainable future.
